MU Men's and Women's Cross Country Open Season at Barton InvitationalPublished by
WILSON, N.C. Competing in their first event of the season, the Methodist men's and women's cross country teams finished seventh and 12th, respectively, in the Barton College Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon.On the men's side, Paul Brown led for Methodist with a 31:43.70 mark, finishing 37th in a 70-man field. Also competing for the Monarchs were Luke Ryan (32:49.38, 42nd), David Pittard (32:52.02, 43rd), Daniel Castano (35:32.60, 57th), Donte Smith (35:40.40, 58th), Trevor Thompson (39:09.87, 63rd), and Marcos Munoz-Rivera (44:31.49, 67th). UNC Pembroke claimed first place as a team and Louisburg College's Haben Zemichael was the individual winner (27:27.72).For the women, Kayla Beavers (24:04.58, 57th) finished first for the Monarchs. Katie Flournoy (24:16.13, 60th), Kristin Fletcher (25:14.57, 70th), Patrina Lowrie (26:11.26, 77th), and Arierose Hernandez (32:48.97, 98th) rounded out the rest of the competitors for the Green and Gold.UNC Pembroke also took home the win for the women with a total of 53 points.MU will return to the races on September 27th that the Greensboro Classic in Pleasant Garden, N.C.
