Western Carolina track & field student-athletes Jamie Brown, Tayla Carter and Hailey Cook were named the Southern Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Month. Brown earned the men’s indoor field athlete of the month honor for the first time while Carter took home the women’s indoor track athlete of the month for the third time. Carter earned the honor in January of 2013 and January of 2015. Cook is another first time winner as she was named the women’s indoor field athlete of the month. This marks the second time since the SoCon began giving out athlete of the month awards in 2008 that two athletes from the same institution won the women’s indoor track and field awards. Carter and teammate Chenell Bryan swept the awards last January to record the first occurrence.
