[Women's Cross Country] Stempien Leads Lady Knights at Wingate Stampede

Wingate, NC- The St. Andrews University Women's Cross Country team headed to the Wingate Stampede this weekend, hosted by Wingate College. The Lady Knights placed 9th.

The Knights had some heavy competition as Wingate University, UNC Pembroke, Pfeiffer University, Francis Marion, Carson Newman, Catawba, Coker and Johnson C. Smith were all competing.

SAU's sophomore Kaitlyn Stempien (Raleigh, NC) finished highest, 25th out of the 71 runners with a time of 22:09 and was followed soon after by freshman Kara Thornton with a time of 23:02 in 37th and freshman Morgan Tedder (Rockingham, NC) took 38th with a time of 23:03.

Other Lady Knights that finished were freshman Ashley Barrera that came in 45th with a time of 24:11 while senior captain Karlee Arnold finished in 52nd at 25:24 to place 5th on the team. Senior Rebecca Yuswak came in 53rd with a time of 25:31while sophomore Emily Scott came in 58th at 26:00.

The Lady Knights finished with 197 points just 5 behind Coker. Wingate took first place with 23 points and 5 competitors placing in the top 10, while runner-up, UNCP, had 42 points and 3 top 10 athletes.  .

The cross country team is next in action this Saturday evening as they travel to the Hagan Stone Classic in Greensboro, NC.
