[Women's Cross Country] Stempien leads Knights at Hagan Stone Classic

Greensboro, NC- The St. Andrews University cross country teams both ran against NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3 competition over the weekend at the Hagan Stone Classic in Greensboro and finished with some pretty decent results.

The Lady Knights finished in 4th place out of the same 6 teams in D-2 with 76 points. SAU was led by the 4th place finish of sophomore Kaitlyn Stempien who came in with a time of 21:21 while freshman Morgan Tedder finished next in 15th at 22:47.

Freshman Kara Thornton was third on the team with her 17th place finish with a time of 23:09 while senior Karlee Arnold finished 19th with a 23:17 time. Freshman Ashley Barrera finished up the scoring for the Knights with her 21st placement with a time of 23:30. Other Lady Knights to race were sophomore Emily Scott who came in 27th at 24:28 and senior Rebecca Yuswak who set a career personal best with a time of 25:12 in 36th place.

Winning the women's race for D-2 was Pfeiffer University with 34 points as they had the top two finishers of the race including the individual champion Cori Newton from nearby Scotland High School who finished with a time of 20:29. Catawba finished 2nd with 70 points and they were closely followed by Fairmont St. and SAU in third and fourth with 73 and 76 points respectively while UVA-Wise came in fifth and Bluefield St. brought up the rear.

The cross country team is next in action this Friday as they travel to Charlotte, NC to compete at the Royals Challenge, hosted by former rival Queens University.
